Have you recently stumbled and fallen? Has something, someone, or some terrible life circumstance tripped you up? If so, I want to encourage you today!
Have you ever seen a track meet at a high school, university, or even on TV? If so, at one time or another, you have probably seen a runner fall down.
It is inevitable at some point in time in a runner’s life that they will fall.
The problem is not that they fall. The problem is that falling puts a test before them–and shows the world if they will pass the test or not. The real test is simply whether they will get back up after they fall–or not.
Someone may be reading this who has fallen down. Maybe you have fallen down.
It could be for any number of reasons:
- a diagnosis;
- a broken friendship;
- a betrayal;
- a financial crisis;
- children who have let you down; or 1,000 other reasons.
What makes matters even worse is that the enemy of your soul is telling you to stay down.
The enemy is telling you not to get back up; that it’s too painful. But you know what? I believe it’s time to GET UP! GET UP! PULL YOURSELF UP! TRY AGAIN!
Friend, you were made to thrive!
You were made to overcome! Psalms 24:16 says, “for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” I think it’s interesting that God said “seven times,” because it is a number that represents infinity. When the righteous person falls, he or she gets up and up and up and up–and that person is YOU!
Dear friend, if you’ve fallen, God is telling you it’s time! It’s time to get up! Paul declares in Ephesians 5:14, “Arise from the dead,” but look carefully at what happens when you get up: “Christ will give you light.”
Maybe it’s time to come into the light and out of the darkness.
Sometimes being in the darkness involves:
- being in the wrong company of people;
- having an attitude of fear, doubt, and unbelief;
- not being in a community of believers; and
- just giving in to hopelessness.
I love what Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens ….” And I know it is TIME for somebody to get up!
You can’t stay down! You were not meant to stay down; you were meant to fly!
Jesus told Peter, “Peter, you’re going to deny Me three times.” And Peter responded, “Lord, I’ll never deny you!” But Jesus knew better. Jesus said, “Peter, before the rooster crows you will have denied Me three times.”
Peter thought to himself, “That will never happen!” But the truth of the matter is that he did. Peter denied Jesus–not only once, but three times–before that rooster crowed the next morning.
Peter felt awful for what he did, and Jesus knew it.
When Jesus was raised from the dead, the first one He spoke about was Peter. Peter could have chosen to stay down, feeling sorry for himself and blaming others. He could have continued wallowing in self-pity. But you know what? He didn’t. He got up–and changed the world.
You may find yourself in the same predicament. You may feel awful for what you did.
But here’s what you need to know:
- You can get up and begin to talk to yourself.
- You can open your mouth and begin to worship at the top of your lungs.
- You can encourage yourself in the Lord.
- YOU can choose to GET UP and refuse to stay down.
Don’t you think it is time for you to get up and start DREAMING AGAIN? Come on, friend! Get up; you know you want to! You don’t have to do it by yourself; Jesus is with you, helping you all the way!
Is this word for you today? Are you choosing to get up today? If so, leave a comment below and let me hear from you!
